Let Yourself Be Powerful: 5 Ways to Step Into Your Potential

Let yourself be powerful, and step into your potential it’s not too late. If you’re feeling like the year is slipping away, that too much time has passed for you to make a difference, it’s time to let go of that narrative. Deep down, you know that it’s not too late, and this message is for you. You have untapped potential, and there’s still time to step into the greatness that you were designed for. Here are 5 ways for you to unveil your potential:

1. Break Free from Limiting Beliefs

Many of us have subconscious stories we tell ourselves that limit our potential. These stories may stem from a belief that it’s too late or that we need to wait for the “right time.” But often, these are just excuses holding us back from living fully. We may downplay our strengths, calling it "humility" when in reality, we’re suppressing the power God has already placed within us.

When we choose to play small, we are quenching the Holy Spirit. The Bible reminds us in Acts 1:8 that we will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us. However, this power is restricted when we refuse to embrace it, whether because we are afraid of what others might think or because we’re trying to stay in our comfort zones.

2. Give Yourself Permission to Shine

We need to decide to show up in life fully and stop holding ourselves back. There’s no false humility in showing up as the powerful individuals we are meant to be. Instead, it’s about stepping into the obedience that God calls us to. Obedience is not passive, it requires boldness, faith, and a willingness to let go of fear.

3. Be Determined

At times, we feel stuck in life like victims of circumstances, desperate for change yet unable to make it happen. To help with this, there are two prompts you can use to reflect and jumpstart your journey towards embracing your power. These prompts can help you shift your mindset from one of helplessness to one of determination.

I. I Feel Powerful When..."

Start by finishing this sentence: "I feel powerful when..." It’s a simple yet effective way to identify the moments and situations where you feel most empowered. Maybe it’s when you’re fully immersed in prayer, or when you’re using your God-given gifts.

For some, it might be something as practical as feeling powerful when dressed in a particular way. For instance, wearing white can make you feel more prepared and confident, ready to face whatever the day brings. Others may feel powerful when they are filled with the Holy Spirit, in line with Acts 1:8. The point is to recognize these triggers and lean into them.

II. "I Would Feel Powerful If..."

If you're struggling to feel powerful, use this prompt: "I would feel powerful if..." This helps you identify obstacles standing in the way of your potential. You might feel that you'd be more powerful if you were in a better financial situation, or if you mastered a specific skill that’s been eluding you.

This kind of reflection helps pinpoint what’s blocking you from stepping into the fullness of who God made you to be. Once you’ve identified these obstacles, you can bring them to God, praying for wisdom, guidance, and the strength to overcome them.

4. Recognize That Power Requires Obedience

True power isn’t about control or dominance. It's about obedience to God. Philippians 2:8 tells us that even Jesus humbled Himself by becoming obedient, even unto death. Similarly, our humility should lead us to obedience. It’s about surrendering our fears, doubts, and excuses to God so that He can work through us.

We may think that playing small is a form of humility, but if it keeps us from being obedient, it’s actually false humility. True humility involves accepting the strength God has given us and using it in service of His plans.

5. Stepping Into Your Authority

God has given us the authority to make a difference in this world. As followers of Christ, we are co-heirs with Him (Romans 8:17), sharing in His authority to lead, inspire, and bring others closer to God. We have the power to defeat the forces of darkness and offer hope, peace, and healing to those in need.

But using this power requires courage. It takes strength to overcome self-doubt, fear, and procrastination. These are some of the most common barriers we face when trying to live a life of purpose. Recognizing these barriers is the first step to conquering them.

Final Thoughts

If you’re tired of making excuses and ready to take action, now is the time. The year isn’t over, and there’s still room for growth. Reflect on these prompts and spend time in prayer. Ask God to reveal what’s holding you back and to guide you towards the next steps in your journey. Remember, seeking is the first step to finding, and knocking opens doors to new opportunities.
