3 Excuses That Prevent Us From Embracing God’s Plan
So, here’s the scoop, God's plan is the best. Most times we’re not ready for that big picture we see, for all those incredible dreams we believe God’s planted in us. And you know what? That’s totally okay!
In fact, we don’t have to make ourselves ready. God’s got that part covered. All He needs from us is one simple thing: our YES. Here are some excuses that prevent us from actualizing God’s plan in our lives.
Excuse #1: “But God, I’m Tired”
How many of us are running on fumes, dragging ourselves through each day, just waiting for that moment when we finally feel “rested enough” to give God a full yes? Spoiler alert: if we’re waiting for rest to magically appear before we surrender, we’re going to be waiting a looooong time. That genuine, soul-refreshing rest we’re craving? It’s actually waiting for us on the other side of our yes.
God’s got rest covered. He’s literally promised it. He says, “Come to Me, all you who are weary...and I will give you rest. (No fine print, no strings attached.)
So, let’s be real: Are we truly honoring the rest that God offers us? I’m talking about real, intentional rest. Taking a full Sabbath, saying no to extra demands, and making time to let God fill us up—when’s the last time we actually did that? If we’re exhausted, it’s probably because we’re doing all the things, running ourselves ragged, and then wondering why we’re too tired to answer God’s call.
Action Step: Start Prioritizing True Rest
It’s okay to say no to busyness so you can say yes to true rest. If that means leaving the laundry or postponing grocery shopping, so be it. When we carve out time for God, whether it’s Sunday or any other day we’re actually showing faith that He will handle what we can’t.
So, if you’re feeling like, “God, I’m tired,” just know that He hears you. But He’s saying, “Your rest is waiting on the other side of your yes. Trust Me.”

Excuse #2: “But God, I’m Overwhelmed”
Ah, the old overwhelmed excuse. It sneaks in, especially for those of us who want to do all the good things. We think, “If it’s good, then surely God wants me to do it.” But here’s a reality check: Not all good things are God things.
This reminds me of the story of Mary and Martha (Luke 10:40). Martha was busy—doing great things, mind you! But in her busyness, she missed the chance to simply sit with Jesus. When she finally voiced her frustration about Mary not helping, Jesus gently reminded her, “You are anxious and troubled about many things, but few things are needed.” He called her to prioritize His presence over her tasks.
Action Step: Focus on What Really Matters
Think about it: when we say yes to God, it might mean saying no to some “good” things. And that’s okay! God isn’t looking for us to check off every task; He’s looking for us to focus on what truly matters to Him. That “no” to extra commitments could be your “yes” to time with Him.
So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, it might be time to let go of the things that are competing with God’s call. Because sometimes, our good intentions are blocking us from God intentions.
The Power of Saying Yes: Let God Take It from Here
Here’s the kicker: We don’t have to feel perfectly ready, refreshed, or less overwhelmed before we say yes to God. The beauty of surrendering to Him is that He’ll make us ready; He’ll give us the rest and focus we need as we step out in faith.
As soon as we give God that yes, He’ll start aligning everything our energy, our focus, and our steps. We’ll be able to see the difference between what we think we have to do and what He’s actually called us to do. And in that clarity, we’ll find rest, focus, and joy.
